DYLAN NELSON
FAKE A PRACTICAL
Artist statement:
I work in photography, sculpture, installation, and non-narrative bookmaking. The images I make are predominately taken ‘in the field’ or are produced through studio experimentation. My ‘fieldwork’ is oftentimes the result of derive-style wanderings in urban and natural landscapes, while my studio images have recently focused on paper-construction and theatre sets. I am most interested in exploring the tension between photography, painting and sculpture, however my work also examines the validity of autonomous images in an image saturated culture and the tension between the history of photography and its recognition and acceptance into the canon of contemporary art.
